Another Day, Another Dead Celebrity

Hollywood headline writers must have this headline ready to go at any time:
(Fill in name of young celebrity) Dies of Accidental Overdose
Today's contestant, Corey Haim, who is virtually unknown to me but to hear the mournful tones of the morning news show the 38-year old must have been somebody at some time.

You notice they rarely describe overdoses as anything but "accidental", as though the person wasn't doing something self-destructive at the time they pushed themselves over the edge. If you're not doing dumb things with drugs you don't tend to have accidental overdoses.

I dislike the use of the word accident in just about every context of common usage.

The clear (and intended) implication is "not my fault, not anybody's fault really".

"I was driving way too fast, went around a curve I didn't see coming up, hit some wet leaves spun out and had an accident."
