On This Night in 1865
It was on this night 145 years ago that Ford's Theater became part of American history. I took these shots five years ago during a trip to D.C.

Presidential Box
Right across the street is the Peterson Boarding House where President Lincoln was taken after the shooting. He died in a small bedroom at the back of the house the following morning.
The bed where Lincoln died. That's his topcoat hanging on the wall in the back of the room. You have to wonder what direction the country might have gone if Lincoln had lived to serve out his second term.

Well, Johnson probably wouldn't have been elected. I heard a book review about him today. Very interesting!
I guess I always assumed Lincoln died right away, not the next day. I bet if his injury had happened today, with the first rate health care we still have, he might have survived.
