Backpack? Check. Laptop? Check. Handgun? Check.

More and more colleges and universities are removing restrictions against concealed carry by their students (from Sensibly Progressive):
The Brady Campaign has been bragging about how they've kept people from being empowered to defend themselves on college campuses, apparently buoyed by the success of these policies at VTI, NIU, etc. (yeah - that was sarcasm). But while there hasn't been much legislative success on this issue there have been positive developments on the judicial level, right here in my own state of Colorado. In fact, Daniel Crocker of Concealed Campus.org reports that the success of the court case against the University of Colorado's (CU) anti-gun policy not only led Colorado State University (CSU) to drop their gun ban, but also influenced "the fourteen colleges in the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) voted to rescind their current ban and allow any licensed adult with a concealed carry permit to exercise that right while on campus."
There's a lot of background information at the link. Bottom line is, in the wake of some violent incidents such as the Virginia Tech shootings, other campuses are realizing that it's better to have some good people with guns on campus instead of just the bad guys and a handful of cops.

Does that make sense to you, Rick? Wouldn't you be concerned about the legitimate gun owners themselves? Many of the headline-grabbing shootings that we read about are done by guys who up until the moment of the shooting had been lawful gun owners, and many others had just never been caught before.

I'm talking about a minority here, I'm nod disparaging all gun owners by any means. The problem is the borderline characters look just like the rest.

It makes perfect sense to me. Where have most of these shootings occurred? At places where there was little risk of other people being able to fight back. Knowing there might be others in the vicinity who can respond will make the entire environment safer by discouraging potential shooters as using those schools as targets.
