This graphic from the BBC helps tell the story as the Conservatives pick up 97 seats. The race in one district was delayed until May 27 due to the death of a candidate:
The Conservatives will fall short of the 326 needed for an absolute majority. In a parliamentary system they have over there you get all sorts of minor parties that win seats and in order to govern somebody has to put together a coalition of parties that will bring the count to 326 or more. The combination of Labour and Liberal Democrat, which are pretty similar in political philosophy, have 315 seats, but they were so disgraced in this election it's hard to imagine them putting together a coalition and claiming a mandate to govern. Interesting days ahead for Britain. This could be the British version of Bush/Gore 2000.
