One Dead at OC Marathon

I've never understood why people decided to go run marathons, but for those who enjoy that stuff, more power to them.  Unfortunately for a number of runners each year the finish line is not just the banner at the end of the race, but the River Jordan and the Pearly Gates.

I've been monitoring the fire department radios in Orange County this morning and it sounds like there has been one fatality at the OC Marathon.  A man made it all the way to the finish line only to collapse in full arrest.  From what I'm hearing his condition has not improved upon arrival at Hoag Hospital and the FD is working to find any family that may have been at the race with him.

They've also handled a number of other sick runners who dropped out along the way.  It's a tough hobby.

UPDATE:  The victim has been identified.
