This Dog Picked on the Wrong Family

A quick thinking mom from neighboring Lake Forest, CA used the tools available to her to protect her children:
A woman shot a dog Wednesday morning after it attacked her 6-year-old daughter playing in the front yard of her home, officials said.

At 10:41 a.m., a 14-year-old boy heard screams from outside a home in the 22500 block of Marylhurst Court and saw a brown and white boxer grab his sister's shoulder while she was playing on the driveway with her 3-year-old sister, according to Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The boy ran to the driveway and tried to pull his sister away from the animal, but the dog wouldn't let go. Neighbors also ran to the girl's aid and tried to get the dog to release its grip on the girl. The girl's mother came out onto the porch with her one-year-old child, then raced down to the driveway to pull her daughter away, Amormino said.

With the help of neighbors, her son and other children, the woman pulled her daughter to safety and into the house. The dog followed her up the walkway and nipped at the pants of the one-year-old son. The mother pushed her children inside and tried to scare the dog off but it lunged at her. She went into the house grabbed a Glock pistol and shot the dog in the throat, said Amormino.

The girl was bitten seven times, including injuries on her leg, calf, thigh, shoulder, arm and face. She was treated by paramedics at the scene and later taken to the family pediatrician.

Neighbors reacted in horror to the attack and some said they had seen the dog in the neighborhood. No one knew who owned the dog.

"I heard screams, the dog ran up the front walk, (the mother) came to the door, shot one round," said neighbor Janelle Knie, who lives directly across the cul de sac from the home where the attack occurred.
What do you want to bet that some animal rights group is going to demand charges against the mom for shooting the dog? You just know it's gonna happen, though the cops will laugh it off. Thankfully, the mom apparently knew what she was doing with that gun, hitting the dog and stopping the attack without endangering anyone else. That's what home defense weapons are supposed to do.

In cities like Washington D.C. or Chicago this lady would have been denied the tool that stopped the attack.

UPDATE: The dog has expired (it probably would have been put down anyway so rescue efforts were pretty much wasted), and ther is a follow-up story on the pistol-packing mom. Some of the comments are absolutely predictable - threatening to call the D.A. and demand that charges be filed against her, etc. So many morons in this world.

This is what is known as "Gun Control" at it finiest. One shot was all she needed to take. Don't point any fingers at this lady for what she did, the finger should be pointed at some idiot dog owner who didn't control their dog as required by law.
