SAN BERNARDINO -- A 40-year-old Hesperia man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting out the rear windows of vehicles on a number of Southern California freeways. At least he wasn't using a gun with real bullets, as happened back in the early 90's. There was a scene in Steve Martin's movie "L.A. Story" of him comically exchanging shots with other drivers on the freeway, something which was happening rather frequently back then.
William Frye, a satellite television installer, was taken into custody after CHP officers saw him fire a gun from his pickup as it traveled south on Interstate 15, said CHP Capt. Joe Flores
The shot blew out the rear window of an SUV.
Frye is suspected of being responsible for as many as 70 such shootings in the past couple of months, Flores said.
CHP officers who witnessed the shooting were working undercover on freeways, looking for the freeway shooter, Flores said.
The shootings have been occurring sporadically on the 10, 15, 91 and 215 freeways in recent weeks. Most of the cars have had their back windows shattered, but no one has been hurt.
I'm glad this guy is off the street.

Billy is my cousin and just found out it was tonight because of the news... I am stunned. I think maybe he finally snapped. He grew up with a father that is just a big ball of pure concentrated evil. Billy's dad, my uncle, has threatened, physically abused, belittled everyone in the family, and everyone is under his control, to be quite honest this isn't a surprise to me. What does surprise me is that it didn't happen sooner, and the target wasn't Billy's dad. I always knew this family would end up being on the news, but Billy never came to mind as the one to put us there.
I am also his cousin. I was just informed of this information and I am stunned as well.
"I always knew this family would end up being on the news, but Billy never came to mind as the one to put us there." ... I agree with this statement.
We are all family, good or bad.
