This DISCLOSE proposal is a frontal attack on anyone who dares to speak out against a congressman. Under the First Amendment, the people have the right to denounce their senators and their congressmen in newspaper and TV ads.Frankly, I don't think there should be any restrictions on political contributions at all. They are one of the purest forms of political speech and should be fully protected under the First Amendment. Any amount from anybody to anybody - just account for it all. Other than that, leave it alone.
Unable to criminalize this — the Supreme Court gutted those provisions of McCain-Feingold — Congress wants to tie its critics up in paperwork. If you fail to list every contributor, there will be hell to pay.
And as we saw in California after Proposition 8 passed, every donor listed will be a target of retribution from, as Jonah Goldberg put it, liberal fascists.
Americans who oppose congressional excesses are denounced as racists and insulted in vulgar terms for a sex act.
This is insane.
Do not vote for this bill, senators.
