I've spent a lot of time going through old photos at my mom's house to pull out stuff that I'd like to save for myself, and along the way came up with some interesting finds. I belong to a Facebook group made up of people who used to attend Garden Grove Church of the Nazarene, where I went from 1966-1976, and continued to sing there several times a year through 1990. I was married there in 1987 and knew lots of people in that church over the years.
I found an all-church photo from 1974 that was pretty interesting, and I surprised myself at how many people I could identify in the shot. The people in the Facebook group got a kick out of that one since many of them were in it, including at least one person who was shown being held in her father's arms. She was maybe 2 or 3 at the time.
Yesterday I found a photo that was taken on February 6, 1968 during the dedication of the church's new sanctuary. Here's the photo:
I scanned it in high resolution so I could zoom in and try and identify some of the people in the shot. I knew my parents would probably be in the choir and I was right. In the photo below my mom is at the lower left and my dad at the upper right, with our pastor at that time, Ed Murphy, singing with the choir:
I wasn't old enough to sing in the choir in those days (I was only 11 when this picture was shot) so I figured I wouldn't be in there anywhere. I began to look through the crowd to see if I could recognize anyone, and darned if I didn't find myself along the way. In this shot of the far left side of the choir section you'll see a kid with glasses at the bottom left. That's me.
I think that's my sister to my left and a friend to the right. Funny how that shows up after all these years.
