I just saw the new Disney movie "Sorcerer's Apprentice". Glad I used discount tickets. It's nerd geek heaven - the classic tale of the physics nerd who gets the cute blonde chick.
In other words, a complete fairy tale.
The audience was full of single guys in groups of three or four, guys who apparently will only get the girl in movies like this. They also thought themselves incredibly witty with their little remarks to one another.
The guy who plays the apprentice is whiny, nasally, and pretty much completely unbelievable as a powerful sorcerer. Mickey Mouse played the role with more realism.
Nicholas Cage played the same part he's played in the last 20 movies he's made. They've could have called it "The Sorcerer's National Treasure Honeymoon in Vegas" and Cage wouldn't have had to change a thing.
The movie is part Disney, part Harry Potter, part Ghostbusters, with a dash of Star Wars and Indiana Jones thrown in. I couldn't help but feel that I had seen it all before, just with better actors. I was quite happy when it ended.
If you're a geeky science nerd, run, don't walk to see this movie. Anyone else, forget it.
