I'm going to take a brief break and dash across the blazing desert to Vegas for three days. It's supposed to be 109 there today, 108 tomorrow, but only about 68 in the hotels. The folks at Buffalo Bill's in Primm, NV sent us an offer for two free nights just for showing up and we thought we'd take advantage of it. In case you're not familiar with Primm, it's right on the I-15 at the California/Nevada border. There are three casino/hotels there and they often have really good rates to try and get people to blow their money there instead of driving another 39 miles to The Strip.
We're going to use their generosity as our base for the trip, but will still spend most of our time down on The Strip visiting all of my wife's favorite shopping sites. I'm also looking forward to checking out City Center now that much of it is completed. We've been watching that project get built since it was first started and it's hard to believe that when we made our first trip over there 10 years ago that area was just a big parking lot and a base for helicopter tours.
On our first trip in 2000 we stayed at the Monte Carlo and had an unobstructed view from our room across the big open land to the Bellagio in the distance. That area is not a series of high rise hotels and upscale shops.
The laptop is staying home so posting through Thursday will be mostly from the cellphone. In order to keep the spammers at bay I've turned on comment moderation and won't be able to clear any comments until Thursday night.
For those of you in the Orange County, CA area, please check out the post below for an opportunity to eat some good food and support a friend.
