A President Out of Political Control

Yesterday on the radio show I mentioned that I thought President Obama was out-of-control from a political sense in that he seems to jump into issues where he doesn't belong...and usually on the wrong side.  That has to drive his political advisors completely nuts, and this piece would tend to confirm that:

Democrats complain they were blindsided when President Obama weighed in on the Ground Zero mosque and handed the GOP a new club to beat them with.

Capitol Hill Democrats, including those facing tough races, were not told in advance before Obama's Friday night speech defending Muslims' rights to build a mosque in lower Manhattan....

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has spent three days on the phone doing damage control with angry Democrats and urging them not to go public against the President, Democratic sources said.

Obama went ahead with the Ramadan dinner remarks even though his top political advisers had not reached a consensus on what he should do. Emanuel was one of the skeptics.

For all his talents Obama doesn't have good political sense when it comes to relating to average Americans. He's spent so much of his life in the world of academics and theoreticians he just doesn't look at issues the way most of America does. He can't afford to keep ending up on the 30% side of these 70%-30% issues.
