Claim Jumper Restaurants Sold, Files for Bankruptcy

Another casualty of the faltering economy...and overpriced food:
Irvine-based Claim Jumper is the latest restaurant company forced to file for bankruptcy protection amid a brutal economy that has hit the casual dining sector the hardest.

Claim Jumper, which operates 45 restaurants in eight states, said it filed for Chapter 11 protection Friday, and will be sold to Los Angeles-based private equity firm Private Capital Partners, an affiliate of Canyon Capital Advisors.

The company did not disclose the sale price. No restaurant closures are planned at this time, company officials said.
I don't go to Claim Jumper very often. The last time I was there was because of a gift certificate someone gave me. Frankly, their food is overpriced, and although they give you lots of it, the quality is so-so. There are lots of places you can get food as good or better with better pricing.

They do, however, have the best brownies in the world. We've gotten them on occasion for birthdays and such. Nothing better if you're a chocolate addict.
