Conservatives Win...and Lose in Delaware

In the most watched race of the evening Tea Party-backed conservative Christine O'Donnell defeated Rep. Mike Castle for the GOP Senate nomination.  Castle was favored by the GOP establishment and polls far better (to this point) than O'Donnell against the Dem opponent.

Conventional wisdom says O'Donnell gets badly beaten in November, thus allowing the Dems to keep a seat they should have lost.  However, this is proving to be anything but a conventional year, so who knows?

This first sentence from Mark Tapscott's report tells you why conservatives were anxious to find someone else:
Tea Party insurgent Christine O'Donnell delivered a knock-out blow tonight to one of President Obama's favorite congressional Republicans...
Anybody described as "Obama's favorite Republican" isn't going to get far with the Tea Party crowd.

And then there's this:
“The National Republican Senatorial Campaign announced tonight that they will not support conservative Christine O’Donnell in her campaign for US Senator in Delaware.”
And conservatives will not support the NRSC, treating their funding solicitations like pleas from lepers.

I will not give one dime to the RNC because of this. I'd rather donate to the McConnell campaign direct! God Tea Party!!!!

Don't take it out on the RNC - Michael Steele plans to support O'Donnell. It's the NRSC that's withholding support.

Rove and the crew best stop worrying about the third party and start worrying about whether they will be one of the three.

And I'm with Mr. Kann--cut them all off ans support individual candidates.

make that "and support individual candidates".

I do not understand sending money to anybody in Washington so they can take a cut and dribble a little out to the plebes that have curried favor.

It must be global warming because with all these gifts from the Tea Party Christmas feels like its early.

A few weeks ago I sent back a Republican National Committee solicitation of money with the note: I will not send one cent to the Republican National Committee until the policies/people supported exhibit true conservative values and policies. I have chosen to donate to campaigns I deem important to conservatives.

I was so mad with the Republican Establishment bashing O'Donnell. Rove's rants on Fox News last night after the results were beyond the pale. Hopefully the establishment will wake up and remember that their only job as politicians is the vote according to the wishes of their constituents.

I'm also wondering (what with all the upsets) if traditional campaign tactics are effective at all this year. With DVRs and Video on Demand, who wants to watch regular TV with all the obnoxious campaign commercials? Robo-calling also doesn't work if you only pick up your cell phone.

Something is really refreshing about a candidate spending a fraction of his/her opponent and still winning.
