Drama at Discovery Channel Headquarters

There's no lack of drama on Discovery Channel Network shows like Deadliest Catch or Whale Wars, but right now there's a gunman possibly armed with some sort of explosive device who has entered their headquarters building in Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C.  One report suggests this guy may have a beef with the Whale Wars program.  I don't know if he's pro-whale or pro-Japanese whalers - that has yet to be confirmed.

More later.

UPDATE:  Looks like an econut terrorist wannabe who has issued a manifesto with demands for the Discovery Networks.

UPDATE 2:  This story from two years ago may give some background on the nutcase involved.  Also this.

UPDATE 3:  Fox had video of day care workers pushing cribs with sleeping infants out of the building.  Brings back memories of Oklahoma City.

UPDATE 4:  According to news reports this guy was motivated to eco-nutism by a book about a talking gorilla and Al Gore's global warming fairy tale movie.  Sounds redundant to me.

UPDATE 5:  The eco-terrorist got his wish - there's one less human on the planet:
Montgomery County Police have shot and killed a gunman who held several people hostage in the Discovery Communications building in Silver Spring for nearly four hours Wednesday.

Three people who had been taken hostage are now safe and out of the building, Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger says.

Manger says the suspect was shot at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday.

Manger says an explosive device may have detonated, and the suspect may have brought other devices into the building. Authorities believe there was some smoke and may have heard a popping noise but have not confirmed anything.

"We believe there are other suspected devices in the building that have not been rendered safe. The operation at this point is to make sure those devices are rendered safe and removed," Manger says.
