More years passed and Smith's decided to leave the California market and sold the location to Albertson's. We've been shopping there for years.
Now some consultant has convinced the Albertson's folks that they need to do a couple of things:
- Stock less variety of each item they sell
- Take everything that everyone has been buying for 10 years and move it somewhere else in the store.
That process is underway as I speak. Just going to the store for taco shells, seasoning mix and tomatoes became a treasure hunting adventure. The tomatoes were where I expected them to be, but the other two items required some diligent sleuthing.
"Clean-up on aisle three - a shopper has passed out from exhaustion!"
It's going to be exciting around there for awhile.

Yeah stores seem to do that a lot. I was surprised to learn how much psychology goes into store layout. They tend to put the necessary items on the perimeter, eggs, milk, produce, bread etc so you have to wade through the other stuff to get there.
And how about children's toys placed in the babyfood isle at kid level? Works for adults too, There's cans of soda and redbull now at the checkout.
But I get annoyed when they play musical muffins with the inventory and I have to spend an extra half hour just geo-locating my usuals. They do it on purpose and regularly to reintroduce stuff to us hoping we'll buy it.
And have you organized a letter-writing campaign to Albertsons telling them you'll go elsewhere if they don't stop this madness? Or that you have already decided to go elsewhere?
