This Is Why I Have My Doubts the Koran Burning Will Take Place

I still expect some sanity to prevail, largely because of this:
The FBI is concerned that Islamic extremists might attack and retaliate at this Saturday's Koran burning planned by radical Florida pastor Terry Jones, ABC News has learned.

"While the FBI has no information to indicate a specific attack has been planned against the United States or U.S. assets in response to the 'International Burn a Koran Day' event, the FBI assesses with high confidence that, as with past incidents perceived as acts of desecration against Islam, extremist actors will continue to threaten or attempt to harm the leaders, organizers, or attendees the event," an FBI intelligence bulletin notes.

The FBI is concerned not only about the potential for an attack at the event -- but also about retaliation going forward. The Aug. 19, 2010 intelligence bulletin out of the Bureau's Jacksonville field office is entitled, "Extremists Likely to Retaliate Against Florida Group's Planned 'International Burn a Koran Day.'"

The intelligence bulletin states that Jones' advertising of the event drew an immediate response from a known terrorist website frequented by radicals. Postings on the Al-Faloja website included a forum member writing, "I wish to detonate myself in this church now. ... I want to become a martyr and detonate myself in this filthiest filth."
Someone on Twitter suggested that Fred Phelps, the pastor of the crazy Kansas church that protests at funerals, must be awfully jealous of this Jones guy because of all the attention he gets. At least Phelps is smart enough to protest against targets that are unlikely to cut his head off.

I have a feeling that some sort of miraculous word of God will be brought forth to this Jones character and he'll change his mind before the matches are lit (and yes, I have my tongue firmly in my cheek as I write that).

As an aside, Dave Foulk on Facebook makes a good point:
“Fifty member church in Florida gets international attention when it burns somebody else’s holy book. Five thousand member churches hold free clinics to everyone, food pantries, home fix-ups for free…. and never get a mention even in local news. It’s not so much that bad news travels fast, but good news rarely gets a ride.”

I think this act (burning the Koran) is stupid. But I continue to be amazed at the hypocrisy of the left on this topic. I was told that not allowing a mosque to be built at ground zero would be "letting the terrorists win" because we would be letting fear dictate our actions.

I guess in this case the terrorists have won. Because of fear, everyone (including the president this morning) is encouraging some whacko not to engage in constitutionally protected behavior.

And...doesn't matter if they don't. Just having stated the idea is enough for the Muslims to condemn them forever.

Remember--they won the Crusades, and they're still bat-s**t crazy about it. And don't even MENTION getting pushed out of Spain.
