Tony Greene Goes Home

Tony Greene, who along with his wife TaRanda were part of the Southern Gospel group The Greenes, and who was also the brother of Kim Hopper of the Hoppers, passed away today at the young age of 41 after suffering infections and other medical problems. In 2009 he received a kidney transplant from his wife and has been battling a number of issues since.

Tony was removed from life support earlier today and lingered for a few hours longer as his family and friends gathered around the hospital bed singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".

One of my favorite Southern Gospel Christmas songs features Tony, his future wife TaRanda, and his sister Kim Hopper. This was recorded a number of years ago during a Gaither videotaping:

We rejoice for Tony but mourn with the family and friends.

UPDATE:  There's more info on Tony at The Singing News.

UPDATE2:  Dean Hopper tells the story of the last hours here.

God has a good one with Him now. Our hearts are heavy for Tony's passing and my prayers are with Tiranda and the children. May God bless you all. It is my hope that the Lord will come for us all very soon and we can be reunited. God bless you in these days, Tiranda. I love you. Dorothy Bowen
