Tina Fey Gets Mark Twain Humor Prize for a Lifetime of One Achievement

She impersonated Sarah Palin.

When I heard that Tina Fey would be given the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor I had this comment:
Tina Fey?? Give me a break. Let's take a look a the list of past winners:
2009 Bill Cosby
2008 George Carlin
2007 Billy Crystal
2006 Neil Simon
2005 Steve Martin
2004 Lorne Michaels
2003 Lilly Tomlin
2002 Bob Newhart
2001 Whoopi Goldberg
2000 Carl Reiner
1999 Jonathan Winters
1998 Richard Pryor
Look at the lifetime of achievements that each of those previous winners can claim. Does anyone seriously believe that Tina Fey belongs in this class of comics? No. She's a former actor on Saturday Night Live, has a moderately successful sitcom on NBC, and has made a movie or two with modest results.

Oh, and she parodied Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live. She came up with the "I can see Russia from my house" quote.

NOW we know why she's getting the award.
Yesterday she was given the award and gave a backhand thanks to Sarah Palin while trashing other conservative women:
Actress Tina Fey, who was granted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Tuesday, paid a backhanded tribute to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and criticized the rise of conservative women in politics during her award acceptance speech.

“I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn’t thank Sarah Palin for helping me get here tonight,” Fey said. “My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.”
This award was as politically correct as they come. Fey did not have the lifetime of achievements in humor that the previous winners had - she was given this by people who wanted to show how clever they are as they bash conservatives.

Put down the Palin Kool-Aid and back away from the snow machine, buster. Just because *you* think she's the greatest thing since canned walrus blubber, don't imagine the rest of us agree with you. What do you think of someone who is so sensitive to criticism that any even slightly critical posts to her FaceBook page are immediately deleted? I think it's someone who can't answer tough questions or deal with criticism. Oh, and by the way, Tina Fey has already made a picture (wrote, produced, and starred in, no less) about Caribou Barbie. It's titled "Mean Girls."

Progressives are such nice people.

Yes, we are. Consider this: Progressives are the people who instituted reforms like food and drug regulations that mean that the food we eat and the drugs we take won't poison us. And who fought the progressives tooth and nail on reforms like that (and literally hundreds of similar ones)back in the early 20th century? Conservatives. I'll never apologize for holding progressive views, no matter how much the talking heads at Fox News tries to act as though it's a dirty word. Doesn't Christianity tell us to love our neighbor as ourselves? I can't recall reading anywhere in the Bible that you should only love your neighbor if he or she is in the same socioeconomic bracket and goes to the same church. Otherwise, it's just an excuse for smugness and exclusion.
