A home in Escondido that was packed with dangerous explosives, making it too risky for authorities to enter, was set to be destroyed by fire Thursday.Boy is that going to be a mess. There aren't a lot of easy ways to traverse that area from north to south so lots of folks have a day of ridiculous traffic ahead of them.
Sheriff's deputies knocked on doors Wednesday night to urge scores of residents to leave before the home is set ablaze.
Residents farther away were told to close their windows and stay inside.
The controlled burn was scheduled to begin after Thursday morning rush hour.
Crews have built a 16-foot firewall to protect nearby homes, and officials planned to shut down a section of Interstate 15 as a precaution.
San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said the burn was expected to last one to four hours.
