House Republicans passed a bill to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care plan Wednesday, taking their first major step toward rolling back the massive overhaul that has dominated the American political landscape for almost two years. It won't get out of the Senate, but the important thing is the GOP promised to do it and they got it done. Now they can work on dismantling Obamacare piece by piece.
The vote was 245 to 189, and unanimous GOP opposition gave the vote the same partisan feel of the March vote to pass the law, underscoring once again the hardened political lines of the health care debate. Only three Democrats backed the repeal, a smaller number than Republicans had once predicted.
UPDATE:
Only three Democrats voted for repeal: Dan Boren, D-Okla., Mike Ross, D-Ark., and Mike McIntyre, D-N.C. Nearly a dozen others who had voted against it last year voted against repeal.Know why? Because those dozen others survived the worst election year for Democrats in history so they no longer feel threatened by Obamacare. Some may be in for a surprise in 2012.
