It's time for the annual trek to the Rockport Gospel Music Festival in Rockport, TX. This Coastal Bend town has been hosting this Festival for 16 years and The Crimson River Quartet has been part of it for 13 of those. When we made our first trip in 1999 I never imagined this would become an annual event for so many years. The Festival has grown from a single-day concert in 1999 to the three-day event that starts Friday night and continues through Sunday evening.
We'll have 1,200 people for both the Friday and Saturday concerts at the high school auditorium and probably 700 for Sunday evening at First Baptist Rockport. They draw a big crowd down there, largely made up of "Winter Texans", the folks who have escaped the cold for the warmer temperatures of the Gulf Coast.
We'll sing four times on this trip, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for the Festival and Sunday morning at First Baptist Church of Sinton, TX. Saturday night will be especially fun because two of my former lead singers now live in Texas and both of them will be joining us for a Reunion Concert. Each guy will join us for several songs and then we'll end the program doing a couple of numbers with all six.
Because of the travel (we're flying out today and back on Monday) and the crazy hours we keep while we're in Rockport I'm leaving the laptop and home and will post occasional updates via the smartphone. If you're a friend on Facebook you'll also see the "Places" updates as we make our way through various airports and the events in Texas. (If you're not a friend on Facebook you can click on my Facebook badge in the righthand sidebar and send a friend request.)
Talk to you next time from the road.
