Have pity for anyone trying to go north out of Los Angeles or come south from the Central Valley this morning - the I-5 over the Grapevine is still closed and has been closed since mid-day yesterday. No word yet from the CHP when they might start escorts through the area, but since snow is still falling it's likely to be several hours.
There are a couple of very lengthy detours that can be taken to get around the mess, but I wouldn't recommend either one. I remember a few years ago having to make that detour when coming south and the traffic on Hwy 126 through Santa Paula and Fillmore was just ridiculous.
Stay home or find a warm place to park and wait it out.
UPDATE: 1:45 pm - I'm hearing the CHP is now running escorts over the hill. The snow has stopped but there are still some pretty icy and windy conditions.
