Shooting at Gardena, CA High School

Another school shooting:
Gardena High School is on lockdown after a shooting on campus that left at least three students wounded.

The shooting was reported in the 1300 block of West 182nd Street around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Gardena police say 3 students have been wounded. At least one person has been transported to a hospital.

There are reports that police know who the gunman is, but are not releasing his name.

He is described only as a 18-year old boy. No word on whether or not he is a student.
Latest reports say the shooter is a student, is in a classroom, and is now being cooperative with school staff. Police are on their way to make contact with him.

UPDATE:  Teacher opened the door but refused to comply with police orders to come out.  A cop grabbed him and threw him out of the way.  The teacher continued to argue and had to be forcibly removed from the situation.  Students are now leaving the classroom and one has been taken into custody.  It appears the situation has been resolved.

UPDATE 2:  Parent info phone number:  310 354-3400, or text 90247 to 888777.

UPDATE 3:  Student apparently had a gun in his backpack.  When he set the backpack down the gun fired striking one boy in the neck and a girl in the face.  The boy didn't look too bad (I saw them loading him in the ambulance) but the girl is listed as critical and undergoing surgery.  This was not a kid going after somebody or the school.  Just a stupid kid carrying a gun.

" Teacher opened the door but refused to comply with police orders to come out."

Bizarre. Must be more to the story, because this seems nonsensical.

It sounds like the teacher tried to pull an attitude with the cops at exactly the wrong time.

Nobody said that you had to be smart to be a teacher.

Wow.....my Alma Mater. Yes; GHS; the former home of many proud "Mohigans".... maybe that is not the mascot name anymore? Well; 1968 was our Sr. Year here: and yes, Bobby Kennedy was assasinated down the road at the Ambassador Hotel..... and MLK Jr. met the same end of the road.... from 'angry' misfits in our communities of yesterday....and still today. And now.... a day after MLK..... some clown brings a gun to school in a back pack? Sad commentary on the conditions in Gardena. Here it is 2011... and we hear in the news here in Colorado; this incident in GARdena. George Lee was our Student body President; and we enjoyed the publicity of the Sogge brothers and their football achievments. One of the brothers was quarterback for USC when the Juice OJ....was making history. Well; he turned out to be a dirt bag too. We all know the story. S. CAlif. A land of promise for our parents coming into the state in the late 1940's..... now the state going bankrupt in more ways than one. Many folks had the sense to go "east' and get out of the mess..... and yet 37 million call it home. What an environment to raise a family..... and the influence on the children? Thats why we moved out in 1975.... never to look back, though we visit a time or two a year. Kids at age 15 taking loaded weapons to school? Unreal.... when I was at Gardena High School.... in 66-68.... fenced and with security for in coming and outgoing persons. Now metal detectors.....not working. Sad commentary. Lord have mercy.
