Webb Will Not Run Again in Virginia

Sen. Jim Webb, who never really looked like he enjoyed life in the Senate (he was once described as looking like an "angry potato"), will not go for a second term:
First-term Democratic Senator Jim Webb of Virginia will retire when his term ends next year.

Webb made his announcement via e-mail, "after much thought and consideration I have decided to return to the private sector, where I have spent most of my professional life, and will not seek re-election in 2012."

Democrats must now find a viable candidate to run in what will be a very hot senate race in the Old Dominion. On the Republican side, former Virginia Governor and Senator George Allen has already announced his intentions to recapture the seat Webb took away from him in 2006.
Former Sen. George Allen, who lost to Webb in 2006, is planning to get into the race. We'll see who the Dems come up with as an opponent. Virginia has trended back toward the GOP in the last couple of elections, but they can be pretty fickle voters so there's no guarantee that the GOP can pick this seat up.
