The Tsunami of Debt

These numbers reflect a government that's out-of-control:
The national debt jumped by $72 billion on Tuesday even as the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the government for just three weeks that will cut $6 billion from government spending.

If Congress were to cut $6 billion every three weeks for the next 36 weeks, it would manage to save between now and late November as much money as the Treasury added to the nation’s net debt during just the business hours of Tuesday, March 15.
In 2007 the total U.S. budget was $2.7 trillion and we had a deficit of $161 billion. this year the government is spending $3.8 trillion with a deficit of about $1.6 trillion.

What are we getting for our money? Near as I can tell, just more debt. The money spent on the Porkulus Bill was largely wasted as it was funneled into the pockets of Democrat special interest groups and did little to create jobs as was promised. And as the GOP makes feeble efforts to cut spending, the Democrats wail about every dollar as though the failure to make those wasteful expenditures will cause our entire society to collapse.

It's gotta stop.
