The Unholy Alliance Between Democrats and the Unions

Rich Lowry starts a piece on the unions in Wisconsin this way:
When the Wisconsin General Assembly voted to pass Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill, the Democratic legislators made themselves indistinguishable from the protestors surrounding the assembly floor.

They wore the same pro-union orange T-shirts. They behaved in the same sophomoric way, breaking out in a noisy, finger-pointing demonstration. They chanted the same ubiquitous word: “Shame!” They might as well have brought guitars onto the floor for a Woody Guthrie sing-along and touted “Walker = Hitler” signs.
The other day Gov. Chris Christie told a story about a public employee union rally in New Jersey that was attended by then Gov. Democrat Jon Corzine. Corzine promised the assembled union members that he would "negotiate the best contract he could get for them".

What??

Have Democrats completely blotted out in their minds the fact that they work for the taxpayers of their states/districts and not the public employees? In fact, as governors or state representatives they are necessarily placed in a somewhat adversarial position in regards to the unions because they have to negotiate the best deal for the taxpayers, and not the best deal for the unions. However, Democrats are so deeply in the pocket of the unions that taxpayers no longer matter.

The fight in Wisconsin is important.  An appropriate balance has to be restored between the public employees and the taxpayers that pay their wages and benefits.  When public employees make more on average in wages and benefits than the taxpayers in the private sector, something needs to be fixed.  Wisconsin will still be more generous to unions than they probably should be, but Scott Walker's plan to reform the way negotiations are done will help bring a little more balance to budget process.

We already have enough people unemployed in the united states. Working under/with a union contract/rules, is safer for employees than working for an emotional boss. With a union contract you dont have to be one of the “good ole boys” or in the “click” to do your job, everything you do is black and white. Our benefits are scouted out to be the least expensive available. We are middle income/ low income people. What kind of free benefits do senators and govenors get? Maids, cooks, health care? Please don’t take more from the middle class again, not until you have lived like us for at least a full year.
