The Perfect Game

Home again after spending 9 1/2 hours on the road (including lunch and dinner stops).  Last night's Senior Recital went amazingly well.  The kid really knocked it out.

She did a nearly 90 minute program that included solo flute, flute plus piano, flute trio, and a quartet made up of harpsichord, violin, cello and flute.  She closed it all out with the Sonata for Flute and Piano Op. 94 by Sergei Prokofiev, a devilishly difficult piece for flute and piano written in four movements that run a total of about 25 minutes.  Keep in mind she'd already played in the various combinations for over 45 minutes when she did the Prokofiev.  Given the difficulty of the previous material, it was kind of like saying "yeah, I know I just threw a 9-inning perfect game, but just to show you it wasn't a fluke I'm going to throw 6 more".

Several of the music professors talked to me and one described it as a "graduate level recital".  That's great to hear.

Regular blogging will resume tomorrow.

So Congrats to your daughter, and what a great compliment for her on your birthday!
