The End of the World Did Come for Some

A lot was made about the world-ending prophecy that was supposed to take place on Saturday.  When it didn't happen there was much merry-making and joking through the internet and media.

However, for at least 89 people in Missouri and 1 in Minnesota, the world did end on Sunday afternoon.  It's a reminder that though we kid and joke about crazy preachers and their predictions, as the Bible says in Matthew 24:36 "no man knoweth the hour" and that includes the hour when your personal world may come to an end.  It's best to always be prepared.

And if you wonder what the end may have sounded like for many in Missouri yesterday, this video is chilling.  There's no picture because it was taken in the dark shelter where people were hiding, but the audio will give you nightmares.

And if you need to recover from that, this video of the rainbow after the tornado will help.

One other piece of video that came into The Weather Channel was a shot of a large wedge tornado near Southwest City, MO.  This one caught my eye because way back in 1977 I spent July 3rd in Southwest City singing for their annual Fourth of July celebration (the Fourth was on Sunday and so they celebrated on Saturday).  It was quite an experience.

I had flown back to Arkansas to do several concerts as bass player with a group called The Ward Boys from Fayetteville, and our first engagement that weekend was the performance in Southwest City.  Our stage was a flatbed trailer, they were serving locally grown watermelon out of the back of pick-up trucks, and when the fireworks started about 9pm they'd fire off one shell, everybody would ooh and ah, and then a minute or two later the next one would go off.  It was small town America at its best.  I'm glad I had a chance to be there that day, and I'm glad they were missed by that wedge tornado.
