First Meaningless GOP Debate Tonight

Is anybody excited about this?
The first Republican presidential primary debate of the 2012 election season will be set in Greenville, South Carolina Thursday night at 9 p.m. The debate will be hosted by Fox News and moderated by Bret Baier.

But in the days preceding the debate, the headlines have focused more on who won’t be attending, rather than the candidates that are already confirmed participants. Five potential candidates will take to the stage at the Peace Center Thursday night: former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, and businessman Herman Cain.
It's way too early for this. There's really no reason for debates until late this Fall. The only thing the GOP accomplishes by doing debates now is giving Obama ammunition with which to attack them. Obama won't be debating anyone this campaign cycle. Why help him out?
