A sweeping ban on plastic grocery bags will go into effect July 1 for unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. But what it will really do is encourage shoppers to go elsewhere where they don't have to be bothered with silly regulations.
The bag ban was touted by county supervisors as an environmental measure to rid the county of "urban tumbleweed" that pollutes landfills and gets washed out to sea. Paper bags will still be available, but customers will be charged 10 cents per bag.
The effort is intended to encourage shoppers to bring reusable bags to the market for shopping.
And how many people will get sick because they're walking around with reusable Petri dishes of bacteria? The Law of Unintended Consequences is sure to raise its ugly head.

And if this ban is really so good for the environment, why does the government allow people to buy their way out of it? You can put carbon credits in that category as well.
It's just another redistribution of wealth scheme.
