From Jim Geraghty's Morning Jolt email:
Sometimes, Under Intense Heat, Weiners Split Open
From one of the other items:
Take a look at Weiner. (Sigh. See? Even the simplest sentences on this story sound dirty.) He's got a beautiful wife who loves him, at least according to his description yesterday. He had stable employment -- let's face it, a Democratic congressman in the New York City area is about as stable a job title as you can find -- making roughly $174,000 per year. His net worth is modest by congressional standards but he enjoyed considerable fame, power, and influence. He is, or was, one of his party's premiere attack dogs. People genuinely considered him a potential future mayor of New York City.
Lots of politicians have affairs. But Weiner risked all of that for . . . not even actual sexual contact with an actual woman. Dirty Twitter and Facebook messages? Some phone calls? That's it? What kind of man takes such enormous risk for such modest reward?
After the hubbub from the press conference died down, Josh Trevino assessed: "Weiner's behavior is that of a man who was a friendless loser in the teen years; discovered the aphrodisiac of power as an adult."
If you're not getting his daily political email,
you really should.
