Seven Republican presidential contenders meet face-to-face in their first major debate on Monday as the fight for the party's 2012 nomination enters a new phase.If I were a GOP candidate I wouldn't bother with debates this far before the primary. They really can't help you. All they can do is hurt.
And let's not forget CNN's past efforts to find "independent" voters to ask questions of Republicans.
UPDATE: Why in the world would the GOP agree to this?
CNN will be projecting a live stream of Twitter and Facebook comments onto a large screen on the debate set for the candidates and the audience to see. Moderator John King will also be monitoring the comments and incorporating them into his questions.I've heard the GOP referred to as "the stupid party" by some conservative bloggers and I can see why. The audience will be more focused on what's posting on the big screen than what the candidates are saying, and of course it will be CNN who will be screening those comments. How fair is that going to be?

I went to bed early. Worked for me!
Let's see: CNN; commercials;
7 candidates; stupid and inane questions; not enough time for good answers.
Nope. Didn't miss anything.
