On this Fourth of July weekend there's no better piece of patriotic music than the Peter J. Wilhousky arrangement of Battle Hymn of the Republic. I sang this song with the Melodyland Church Choir on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and in the Pentagon in 1976, and this weekend have been asked to join the Saddleback Church Choir to sing it in four services (they need a little help on the low end). Services are 4:30 & 6:30 Saturday and 9:00 & 11:15 on Sunday. You can watch the services online at Saddleback.com.
I'd love to wear the shirt I had in this 2002 quartet photo, but I'm afraid it would send the TV cameras into a strobing fit:
Here's a very large collection of Mormons singing the arrangement:
FYI - from Wikipedia, regarding this arrangement:
In 1960 the Mormon Tabernacle Choir won the Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group or Chorus.
Rick Moore is a life-long conservative, pretty darn good bass singer, and long time political junkie. He's been posting his commentary at HolyCoast.com since September, 2004.
