Just checked the real-time traffic maps around Los Angeles and it looks like the Carmageddon hype is working so far. It's still early in the day, but there doesn't appear to be any slowdowns on ANY L.A. freeways so far. I expect that will pick up a bit as the day goes on, but right now you could probably fire a cannon off on most of the freeways and not hit anybody. The media and public officials have successfully scared everyone off the roads.
Things are looking good for my trip to LAX this evening. My prediction seems to be about right.
I'd hate to see what this weekend might do to the local economy, though. There are a lot of normally busy places that will be sitting empty this weekend.
