66 Years Ago Today

On this day in 1945 this airplane saved the lives of countless thousands of U.S., Allied, and for that matter Japanese troops (not to mention civilians) when it helped hasten the end of the war by dropping the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan:


I took both of those pictures during a trip to the National Air and Space Museum facility at Dulles Airport in Virginia where the Enola Gay is now on display. You can see an amazing 360-degree view of the cockpit here.

There are those who still foolishly think America needs to apologize for using the A-bomb.  Baloney.  We have nothing to apologize for.  The killing would have gone on for several more years with hundreds of thousands or even millions of additional casualties without those two atomic bombs.
