Ron Paul Set to Make Iowa Straw Poll Completely Irrelevant

And that's a good thing.  Iowa has way too much power going into the presidential primaries and there's nothing better to stomp that down by having a guy win their Straw Poll who has no chance of becoming the nominee.

Other thoughts on Paul's performance in last night's debate from Jim Geraghty and others:
Some of the more interesting topics were Iran, its nuclear program, intelligence gathering, and a dangerous world. Ron Paul played a central role.

Moe Lane
: "Did Tim Pawlenty just advocate Mossad's assassination campaign of Iranian nuclear scientists? I mean, YES, of course, but damn."
Rick Klein of ABC News: "Ron Paul is ready to 'tolerate' Iran getting a nuclear weapon. This is why, if he wins the straw poll, the GOP has a little problem."
NRO's Dan Foster summarizes Ron Paul's view, "nuclear theocracy is okay because the CIA was overenthusiastic in 1953."

There is increasing consensus that Paul is likely to win Saturday's straw poll.
Yesterday I got into a bit of a running argument on Facebook with a Paulian. I usually don't waste my time on them and more often then not drop them from my friend's list, but I was having fun batting this guy around. Here's a favorite part of the exchange:
Paulian: You're following what the establishment. gives you to support. Tell me the policies that Ron Paul supports that you do not. Tell just what he stands for that you reject, or do you only care about winning? As long as someone like you is in charge it doesn't matter what they do?

The policies of the two parties are the same.

As someone else has said, they're two cheeks to the same ass.

Me: So, since Ron Paul is a Republican, which ass cheek is he?
Sometimes it's just so easy.

And this Paulian, like the thousands of others who jam online polls and think they're accomplishing something, will suffer yet another defeat and will start planning for Ron Paul 2016! when Paul will be 81 on election day.

The only thing missing from the Ron Paul cult is the Kool-Aid.

"...you only care about winning?"

You bet I care about winning, because in 2012 losing will mean 4 more years of Obama.

We heard that same crap in 08 when we "decided" that McCain should be the nominee. Who is more conservative than Ron Paul? Not a single candidate thus far. Besides, our country is in deep trouble. Ending the Fed is a necessary step toward fixing it. The fascist nature of the Federal Reserve is one of the top driving forces of the shape of our economy. The fact that just about any progressive you talk to supports the Fed ought to be a clue to you. One of the key tenets outlined in Marx's Communist Manifesto is central banking. Has it ever occurred to you that the GOP has been hijacked by progressives? There is absolutely zero doubt about it. Look at Mitch McConnell for crying out loud!

I'm pretty sure that Ronald Reagan would vote for Ron Paul, and surely Barry Goldwater would.

Would Ronald Reagan or Barry Goldwater let Iran have nuclear weapons? Ron Paul would. Nancy Reagan led the "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign. Ron Paul would eliminate all drug laws. Sorry, but there's no way Reagan or Goldwater would have supported Paul.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I am a Rick Perry supporter and think that Ron Paul is a total wacko.
