The Metrolink Weekend

For those of you in Southern California, Metrolink now has a great weekend deal that we took advantage of yesterday and today. You can buy $10 EZ Pass that's good for unlimited use of all Metrolink trains, MetroRail subways and light rail, or Metro buses from 7pm Friday night until midnight Sunday night. You can go anywhere the system goes during that time period.

Saturday we took the Metrolink train to Union Station, and then the Metro Red Line subway up to Universal City. After shopping around up there we hopped back on the subway and went one stop south to Hollywood/Highland and checked out the crowd around Graumann's Chinese Theater, the Kodak Theater, and the Hollywood/Highland Center. We ate lunch on Hollywood Blvd. and watched the parade of weirdos. Big fun.

Back on the subway and we jumped off at 7th Street/Metro in downtown so my wife could check out where she used to work. Then back to Union Station and back home.

Sunday we jumped back on the train and headed south to Oceanside, which is the end of the Metrolink line. We'd never wandered around the Oceanside Pier area, so that was fun. And if we ever need a Marine, that's the place to go. Downtown Oceanside is Al Qaeda's worst nightmare. The only city with more Marines than Oceanside is Baghdad. Of course, Camp Pendleton is right next door.

We'll probably do something like it again in a month or so, with some new destinations along the way. It's a great way to travel around and visit some new areas.
