Rick Perry's Immigration Problem

If there's one thing that could keep Rick Perry from winning the GOP nomination (besides bad debate performances) it's his immigration stance in Texas.  The so-called "Dream Act" that would give in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens (while denying the tuition break to out-of-state U.S. citizens) is a huge problem for a lot of conservatives, and so far Perry's answer for his support has been less than encouraging:
“I supported Arizona’s immigration law by joining in that lawsuit to defend it. Every day I have Texans on that border that are doing their job. But if you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they’ve been brought there by no fault of their own, I don’t think you have a heart. We need to be educating these children, because they will become a drag on our society. I think that’s what Texans wanted to do.”
Someone asked a very good question the other day: "What good does it do to provide an inexpensive college education to people who cannot be legally employed in the United States?"

Good point. If we're going to get tough on employers and make sure they don't hire illegal aliens, where are all these newly-minted college graduates going to work?  Accusing someone of not having a heart because they don't want to give tuition breaks to unemployable people is not a winning strategy.

Of course, there's always Obama's approach to stopping illegal immigration - you just crush the U.S. economy to the point the illegals start fleeing back over the border because they can no longer find jobs here.
