Breaking: Senate Blocks Obama's $35 Billion Giveaway to Public Employee Unions

From Breaking News:
BREAKING: The Senate on Thursday night blocks a $35 billion bill for states and localities to hire teachers and first responders.
It was dead on arrival from the start and Obama never expected it to pass. He just wants the issue, not a solution.

And all a bill like this does is shelter cities and school districts from reality...for another year.  But sooner or later they're going to either have to pay for these people themselves or lay them off.

I like Kurt Schlichter's approach:
I am a Conservative: Hey libs, if one "diversity organizer" remains on your state payroll, don't ask for money to fund cops.
And I've made the argument before that in an age where municipal budgets are tight, it doesn't make sense for multiple cities in Orange County to have their own police and fire departments. They could easily be consolidated, or better yet they could contract out their service to the county and cut out huge amounts of overhead. There wouldn't be any need to lay off cops and firefighters if they could eliminate management layers and reduce facilities.
