Today was the California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill that occurred at 10:20 this morning. Just to keep everybody on their toes, at 2:41 there was a 4.2 earthquake centered near Berkeley in Northern California. It looks like the quake was located on a major fault zone, so for the next couple of hours people should stay alert in case this was one of the 5% of quakes that is a foreshock for a larger event to come.
UPDATE: The quake has now been downgraded to 3.9.
