Legendary crooner Andy Williams announced he will keep on performing despite news that he has bladder cancer. When I was a kid watching The Andy Williams Show was a regular weekly activity, especially the annual Christmas shows. My parents have seen Williams in Branson a time or two, and his voice will forever be associated with Christmas on songs like "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". I wish him well.
Williams told a nearly full house a Christmas concert at his Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri Saturday night. Audience members were caught by surprise, honoring Williams with a standing ovation.
I do have cancer of the bladder. But that is no longer a death sentence," Wililams said. "People with cancer are getting through this thing. Theyre kicking it, and theyre winning more and more every year. And Im going to be one of them.
But Williams said he plans on returning to the annual Christmas concert next year, marking his 75th year in show business.
"I'm going to do the shows I've planned to do," he said. The 83-year-old singer had a series of hits in the 1950s and 60s and is best known for his version of "Moon River."
