Atheists, humanists, skeptics and free thinkers are descending on the hallowed civic ground of the National Mall this Saturday for a Reason Rally.10,000? That's a voting block? That's not even a decent sized Occupy rally. When Promise Keepers had their rally on the Mall they had nearly a million men there. Even Louie Farrakhan got something like 400,000 people out for his "Million" Man March.
Called together by word-of-Web and social media, they plan to head for Washington just like religious groups do — to strut their strength as a voting block, lobby for public policy and raise their social profile.
Organizers expect more than 10,000 people to celebrate unbelief, dance to punk band Bad Religion, hear a score of speakers led by celebrity British atheist Richard Dawkins, and shout out for separation of church and state.
I guess they decided to hold it on the 25th because the Mall wasn't available on National Atheist Day, April 1st.
