Councilmembers will vote Wednesday on a resolution asking Clear Channel and KFI to "do everything in their power to ensure that their on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs over airwaves."The resolution passed 13-2.
The resolution states that the best way to combat racism at KFI is to hire more non-white individuals. It reads, "a truly diverse work environment must include the hiring of a work force that reflects the diversity of Los Angeles which includes women, African Americans, Latinos, and Asians."
Radio is a business. They hire people based on how many listeners will tune in to listen to them, not what color they are (note to LA City Council - you can't see the people on the radio). KFI hires the hosts they do because they get ratings which in turn translates to advertising dollars. Until someone else comes along that can do a better job, they're not going to hire a bunch of other people who just happen to be politically correct colors.
