Although a lot of people are thinking about the anniversary of the Titanic disaster tonight, my thoughts go to another disaster.
On this night in 1865 President Abraham Lincoln went to this theater to see a play.
Ford's Theater
Presidential Box
He sat in this very chair, now on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan.
After being wounded by John Wilkes Booth he was carried across the street to the Peterson Rooming House.
He was laid in this bed where he lingered until the early morning.
The bed where Lincoln died. That's his topcoat hanging on the wall in the back of the room.
I can't help but think what a shame it was that the president who got us through the Civil War with the Union intact wasn't able to live long enough to enjoy the victory.
