Upstart Deb Fischer Crushing New Yorker Bob Kerrey In First Nebraska Senate Poll

Wow. It's beginning to look like carpetbagging doesn't pay after all.:

State Senator Deb Fischer holds an 18-point lead over Democrat Bob Kerrey in the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the Nebraska U.S. Senate race since her upset win in last week’s state Republican primary.

A new telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nebraska shows Fischer with 56% support to 38% for Kerrey who is trying to reclaim the Senate seat he retired from in 2001. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

Kerrey was a two-term Senator as well as governor and is very well known in Nebraska. However, he's lived in New York City since 2001 when he went there to head The New School.  After all these years away it looks like the voters don't think he can really do a good job of representing them in Washington.

It's early, but Twitter was full of naysayers on election night saying Fischer couldn't possibly beat Kerrey.  She's certainly starting out stronger than anyone thought she would.
