Sacramento State Tour

The whole day was spent traveling the 90 miles to Sacramento State, doing our tour and sightseeing on campus, and then slogging our way back to Rohnert Park.  The trip over took far longer than we had planned thanks to a major highway closure following a big truck accident.  Traffic through Napa and American Canyon was really botched up - almost reminded me of home.

My daughter came along with us to for the tour and I snapped the reluctant subjects in the administration building before we set out on the tour.
The campus has some interesting architecture.  This building, which houses the School of Design, was supposed to look a little like a cruise ship.
The campus is about 300 acres with lots of trees - very scenic.

This huge dorm complex was just opened this year and is where upperclassmen like my son will live.  Pretty nice.  The suite set-up he likes has 5 individual bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.  For guys, that's not a problem.
This is the courtyard area of the new dorms.

This bridge, designed to look like the Golden Gate, crosses the American River behind the school.

The American River.  There are bike trails along both banks - very nice.
Solano Hall is where the boy will spend a lot of his two years at Sac State because it houses the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration.  He's looking for a degree in Park Recreation and Resource Management with a possible future as a National or State Parks Ranger.  He'll be keeping the pic-a-nic baskets safe from Yogi and Boo-Boo.
Since most of the students are gone for the summer, the resident squirrel population is a little bit lost.  They're fearless, obviously used to being hand-fed by students, and will come up and just about kick you in the ankles begging for food.

Tomorrow we move the girl from one dorm room to another for the summer, but that won't start until after 5pm.  Not sure yet what we'll do during the day.
