Now That DADT is Gone Affirmative Action Should Be Next

I heard Sen. Joe Lieberman talk about his joy at the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the policy that kept homosexuals from serving in the military.  He stated, and I paraphrase, that this is what America should be about - not who you are but how well you do your job.

Agreed.

So let's dump Affirmative Action.  Affirmative Action is about who you are and not how you do your job.  People with higher qualifications have been bypassed in order to promote someone who met a requirement for a specific race or sex in higher levels.

Dump it, repeal it, or whatever we have to do to end it.

And let's quit dumbing down the requirements for our police and fire departments in order to make them "more diverse".  We don't need diverse departments, we need departments that can catch criminals and put out fires.  Weakening the requirements for those jobs does not add to the public's protection.

If repealing DADT is good for the military, ridding ourselves of other standards that don't reflect on a person's ability to do the job should be eliminated as well.
