MonkeyGate Will Continue to Fester Until the Idiot Resigns

Last night's 10 pm local news led with the MonkeyGate story which has now been going on for several days, the story about the Orange County GOP official who sent out an email with a less than flattering image of Obama.  GOP officials are calling for her resignation, but all she's done is go from indignation to weak and probably insincere apology.

An Orange County Republican official who sent out an email containing a doctored photo depicting President Barack Obama as a chimpanzee has issued an apology and is reportedly receiving death threats.

Marilyn Davenport, a tea party activist and elected member of the central committee of the Republican Party of Orange County (RPOC), claims the photo was a joke.

The caption accompanying the photo read "Now you know why no birth certificate."

This woman is doing irreparable harm to the GOP in Orange County and nationwide as this story gets picked up by national media. She can end it today with a resignation. Once she's gone the story has no more legs, but as long as she keeps issuing statements and bitterly clinging to her position in the party the media has yet another excuse to run the photo and smear the GOP.  If she forces a long drawn-out ethics battle with the local party she'll undo any good she might have ever done in her position on the central committee.

Give it up, Mrs. Davenport, you're hurting your party.  End this thing today.  It's not about you anymore.
