Hungry? How About a 1,690 Calorie Sandwich From Denny's

I gotta admit, this looks really good:
Now this is more like it, Denny’s. Nearly 13 months ago, I mocked the restaurant chain for unveiling its mozzarella-stick sandwich, which clocked in at a mere 895 calories and 34 grams of fat. My thinking was: Come on, Denny’s! In this era of gastro-nihilism, surely you can come up with something more shocking and heart-punishing.

Sure enough, the sandwich soon passed into laminated-diner-menu oblivion, neither loved nor feared, completely different than its mythic distant cousin, KFC’s Double Down, the bacon and cheese sandwich with two hunks of chicken instead of bread.

Well, the R&D boys hunkered down in the Denny’s lab for a year and emerged with the “Let’s Get Cheesy” menu. Six of the nine items are full breakfasts or lunches, and each of those six dwarfs the Double Down in all gut-eviscerating categories.

Compared with the DD’s 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium, the Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt (pictured) is a monster: The sandwich, which is a burger and mac-and-cheese and potato bread topped with cheese and something called Frisco sauce, checks in at 1,690 calories, 99 grams of fat and 2,010 milligrams of sodium, according to the menu’s nutritional sheet. It comes with fries, naturally.
By the way, Frisco sauce is 1,000 Island dressing mixed with ketchup. I know that because my mom ordered one of these last week. It looked pretty good.
